关键词 Steel;Machining;Silicon compounds;Composite materials;Wear of materials;Cutting tools;Solubility;Thermodynamics 摘 要Although it is commonly known that the commercially available Si//3N//4-based inserts are not suitable for the machining of steel, because of the detrimental chemical incompatibility of Si//3N//4 with iron-based alloys, this work shows that composites with a thermo-dynamically more favourable SiAlON matrix, toughened and hardened by a secondary phase can be used.Successful high speed dry turning of DIN 42CrMo4 steel with SiAlON-TiX composites is demonstrated.The results of two types of sialon matrices with 30 volume percent of TiB//2, TiCN or TiN are reported and are compared with that of three commercially available Al//2O//3-based cutting tool materials.
